BONNIE
STIPE
In my work I have continually been concerned with the visual currency of human body. As consumers in a visual culture we are constantly bombarded with idealized appearance, airbrushing out imperfection. My work is concerned with those imperfections and the discomfort that those folds, wrinkles, and weight can bring. Through exploration of the corporeal presence of the body, I am investigating beauty beyond idealized form. I am interested in alluding to the body through twists of fabric and form. With the insinuation of skin through cloth and thread, I hope that the viewer feels uneasiness with the distortion of flesh.
